Job Title: Marketing & Development Coordinator
Full-Time | Exempt | On-Site | $45,760/year

Position Summary
United Way of Northwest Illinois seeks a mission-driven, strategic professional to serve as Marketing & Development Coordinator. This full-time, salaried role advances the organization's visibility, fundraising, and public engagement efforts through thoughtful planning and community leadership. The ideal candidate brings a passion for impact, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently on strategic initiatives that support the organization's growth.
This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) under the administrative exemption and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing & Communications
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive marketing strategies that tell the United Way of Northwest Illinois and partner agencies story to support the UWNWIL brand.
- Manage and grow the organization's digital engagement through social media presence, website, and email campaigns.
- Create promotional content including flyers, newsletters, press releases, and reports.
- Maintain consistent brand voice and message through high-quality content across all platforms.
Fund Development & Donor Engagement
- Develop and implement fundraising campaigns, events, and donor engagement strategies.
- Cultivate donor relationships through direct outreach and stewardship efforts.
- Research and draft grant proposals in partnership with the Executive Director.
- Maintain donor databases and generate reports to guide development strategies.
- Lead and manage workplace giving campaigns in partnership with local employers.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
- Represent United Way of Northwest Illinois at public events, meetings, and speaking engagements.
- Build partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and media outlets.
- Proactively identify opportunities for increased visibility and advocacy.
Organizational Leadership Support
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on organizational planning and budgeting for outreach efforts.
- Provide oversight to interns or volunteers supporting communications and events.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in day-to-day decision making.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing, communications, fundraising, or nonprofit development.
- Required: Demonstrated excellence in writing, public speaking, and interpersonal communication.
- Required: Proficiency with social media, email marketing platforms, basic design tools (e.g., Canva), and CRM/database systems.
- Required: Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to work independently.
- Preferred: Knowledge of Northwest Illinois community.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual Salary: $45,760 (equivalent to $22/hour for 40 hrs/week)
